After all this I arrived back
home in Geneva. Elizabeth
was happy to see me. We took
a walk by the lake and talked.
‘My dear Victor, I do love you. Do
you love me back? You have been so
sad. Do you think I can make you happy
again?’ Elisabeth asked.
I told her that she was the only happiness in my life and I
wanted to marry her and only her.
‘But I have a terrible secret. I promise to tell you all about
it later, when we are married.’
The monster’s words, ‘I will be with you on your
wedding night’, frightened me. I was going to be
prepared when the monster came after me.
