Gullfoss and Geysir
You often visit these two popular tourist
attractions together. Gullfoss is a huge and
beautiful waterfall. When you visit it you have
to walk carefully around the area and not get
too close. It’s very slippery and the falls are
very high.
Geysir is a hot water spring from which water
and steam are ejected. It is the first ever to be
written about; therefore, the name geyser is
used in English for water springs of this kind.
Geysir normally doesn’t erupt anymore but
Strokkur, another geyser in the area, does. It is an
amazing sight to see the fountain of a geyser spout
into the air. Next to the Geysir area there is a hotel,
coffee shop and souvenir shop.
Kerið
Kerið is a water-filled crater in the ground in
Grímsnes. It is about 5000 years old. The depth of
the crater is about 55 metres, it is 270 metres long
and 170 metres wide. It is a very popular spot, both
for Icelanders and foreigners. This is a very special
place and has even been used to hold concerts.
