Albert Einstein
Albert Einstein was a world-famous physicist
born in Germany in 1879. He grew up in
Munich and went to school as other young
boys did. He did not do well in school
but he liked to study math, science, and
philosophy at home by himself. He began
speaking late as a child and had reading
problems. The principal of his school told
his father: ‘Your son will never make a
success of anything.’
In 1895, Einstein’s family moved to Italy. There
he also studied at home on his own. But, in 1896, on
his second try, he became a student in Switzerland. He
studied math and physics and graduated in 1900. Einstein
always wanted to be a teacher but didn’t get a teaching job.
A year later he got a job in an office in Switzerland. When
he wasn’t at work, he did research into physics. In 1903, he
married Mileva Maric.
In 1905, the University of Zurich gave him a degree for an
article he wrote. Einstein became a professor of physics at
a university in Prague, then in Zurich and later in Berlin.
His wife did not like Berlin and decided to return to
Switzerland. They were divorced in 1919. Later that year,
Einstein married again.
Einstein was often so busy thinking about science that
he didn’t manage to think about simple things. He often
forgot things and didn’t care about the way he looked.
Wearing wrinkled and old clothes was normal for him.
