Fortune-telling
15
The captain took the locket, opened it, and read
the paper. He stood up and ran away.
He returned with a lifeboat and said, ‘I’m very sorry Phil
but you can’t stay here. You must leave immediately.’
Phil couldn’t believe this was happening for the third
time but had no choice and climbed into the boat.
Several days later, his boat landed on a desert island.
After searching for food and water with no luck, he gave
up. Lying on the beach trying to stay alive, he reached
for the locket.
‘This must be the last day of my life,’ he thought.
Phil opened the locket carefully and took out the piece
of paper. As he began to unfold it, the wind began to
blow. It caught the piece of paper and whisked it away
with the breeze …
• What was written on
the piece of paper?
• How do you think
the story ended?
• Now write the rest of
the story like you think
it ended in your notebook.
