locket. You must not look at the paper until the last day
of your life. You must promise never to look at it.’
Phil was very afraid, but he promised never to look at
the paper.
A year later, Phil met a beautiful young woman. They fell
in love and decided to get married. The day before the
wedding, his wife-to-be asked Phil about his locket and
asked to read the note. As she read it, her face turned
pale and she began to cry.
‘You must leave! I never want to see you again. Get out of
my life!’ she yelled.
Phil didn’t understand what had happened and drove
away from the house angry and upset.
Distracted by how his life had just turned upside down,
Phil crashed into a parked police car. The police arrested
him and sent him to jail. Phil didn’t really care where he
was because he didn’t feel like he had anything to live
for. After a short while, a police officer suddenly came to
him and opened the prison cell.
‘You have to go. Get out of here right now and do not
come back,’ he said.
Phil didn’t understand what was happening until he saw
the locket in the police officer’s hand.
‘You read it?’ he asked.
‘Yes, now get out of here.’
Phil walked and thought about how no one wanted him;
he wasn’t even welcome in the prison. Finally he had
an idea.
‘I will take the honeymoon cruise alone and use it to
relax,’ he thought.
The ship was beautiful and the weather fantastic. Phil
had a great time and enjoyed every minute of his cruise.
