My brother Ernest told me that the police had found
William’s locket in her pocket. Elizabeth told us she
didn’t believe Justine did it.
‘She is not a criminal,’ she said.
‘Hopefully we can prove that,’ I replied.
The trial was the following day. We all defended Justine
and spoke about what a wonderful person she was, but
it didn’t mean anything. The judge didn’t believe us.
Justine was convicted for the murder and sentenced to
death. She was executed shortly after the trial.
I felt terrible. This was my fault. My darling little brother
and our loving Justine, who had done so much for us,
were dead. Inside I knew that this was not the end of the
tragedy. This was not the monster’s last work.

• What happened to William,
Frankenstein’s younger brother?
• Who was accused of the murder?
