Vala Flosadóttir (born 1978) won a bronze medal in pole vault when
she jumped over 4.5 metres. The gold medal winner was from the US
and the silver medallist was from Australia. Vala was voted Iceland’s
athlete in 2000. She was the first Icelandic woman to win a medal at
the Olympics.
