Unusual sports
Wife-carrying
is a sport that
started in Finland as a joke but
has turned into a sport that people
compete in around the world and
even has a place in the Guinness Book
of Records. The male runs with his female
partner on his back and tries to be the first to
the finish line. The track is not easy and the men
might have to cross over water or jump over things. There
are a few rules. For example, the woman (who does not
actually need to be the man’s wife) must weigh over 49
kg, she has to wear a helmet and, most importantly, all
contestants must have fun.
Toe-wrestling
is something that many of us have tried
and now it is an official sport. The World Toe Wrestling
Competition first started in 1976. Competitors lock
their toes together and try to force the other’s foot to
the ground. Believe it or not, in 1997 the World Toe
Wrestling Competition applied to have toe-wrestling
listed as an official sport in the Olympic Games, but they
were turned down.
