NEXT UP! 3 218 Write an analysis The purpose of a written analysis is to examine something in order to understand more about it. Here you are going to practise how to analyse text and images in campaigns and advertisements. Analysis An analysis should include: • an introduction • a short description of what is being analysed • the analysis • a conclusion Plan your writing You are going to write an analysis of an awareness campaign or an advertisement of your choice. You can look in magazines and newspapers or on billboards. Take a screenshot or photo of the ad or campaign to include in your analysis. When you have chosen your campaign or advertisement, prepare your analysis by doing the following tasks: a) Freewrite for a couple of minutes about why this ad or campaign caught your attention. b) Write down five sentences to describe the image(s). Read your description to a partner. c) Who is the target audience? What is the purpose? What makes you think that? d) Whether you have chosen a campaign or a single advertisement, go online to find out more about the advertiser (the company that owns the product being advertised or the organisation that works for a certain cause).
