NEXT UP! 1 84 On her journey around the world, Laura experienced storms and big waves. At one point, the steering wheel broke and the sails ripped. But she was never afraid. Her only thought was to fix the boat and keep on. She saw dolphins play and sometimes the air would fill with flying fish. She met people who helped her and shared what they had. However, when she crossed the Indian Ocean, she did not publish her position on her blog to avoid pirate attacks. After 518 days at sea, the now sixteen-year-old reached the Caribbean. Laura was the youngest solo sailor to circle the world. After her triumph, she sailed to New Zealand. She wanted to explore the country where she was born. Today Laura lives in New Zealand. Sailing is still a great part of her life.
