In fact, the Vikings exported many words from Old Norse to England when they first travelled there in the Viking Age. At the beginning of the year 793 AD, the Vikings attacked the monastery at Lindisfarne in the north-east of England. The monks were brutally killed or enslaved. The Vikings stole all the treasures and damaged the monastery. This incident has traditionally been used to mark the beginning of the Viking Age (793–1066 AD). However, not all Vikings travelled to steal, burn and kill during the Viking Age. Most of them were probably just looking for fertile land or someone to trade goods with.
