25 1 Leading and following UNDERSTANDING 22 Vocabulary a) Write an explanation in English for the following words: opinion, occasion, introduction, body (of a text), conclusion, message b) The paragraph Purpose and message contains three of the chapter’s focus words. Find them and write down the sentences where they occur. c) Pick three words from task a) and the focus words in task b) to make a new sentence with each word. If you like, you can use these words to write a short text instead. 23 Organise information After reading the text, divide a piece of paper into four squares. Write the four subheadings – Purpose and message, Structure, Language and Performance – in the four squares. Close read the text and write four to six keywords from each of the paragraphs. Read through the whole text one time without stopping. Then, read one paragraph at a time, close the book and write keywords. Repeat with each paragraph. TALKING 24 Summarise Work with a partner. Use your keywords from task 23 to summarise two paragraphs of the text each. Listen carefully to the summary your partner reads out. Compare notes to make sure you agree on the summaries.
