187 4 Walls and bridges Another brick in the wall You have probably seen old buildings and walls missing a brick or two. Isn’t there something sad about crumbling walls? What if you could turn these cracks into fun and colourful artwork? The German artist Jan Vormann likes to patch up crumbling old walls. He fills in the cracks using Lego. His Lego patch work creates a multicoloured contrast to the grey walls as he turns the cracks and gaps into playful pieces of art. Since 2007, he has used thousands of pieces of Lego to patch up walls. In Berlin, bullets and shrapnel from World War II damaged many buildings. Vormann’s colourful Lego transformed the scars. He travels the world and fixes buildings wherever he goes. The expression “to be another brick in the wall” usually means being the same as everyone else. However, Vormann’s artwork shows that bricks in a wall can stand out. You just need to dare to be colourful! easy read Before reading Did you ever play with Lego?
