NEXT UP! 3 180 Migrant Mother The photo Migrant Mother was taken by photographer Dorothea Lange in California in 1936. This period in American history is called the Great Depression. During this time, it was very hard to find work and millions of people were driven into poverty. The photo portrays the migrant farm worker Florence Owens Thompson with some of her children, whose faces are turned away from the camera for some reason. She did not reveal her name to the public until she was 75 years old. WRITING 31 Describe Describe the picture and give your opinion on why you think this photo became an iconic image of the Great Depression.
