NEXT UP! 1 162 Write an informal letter In “My London adventure” on page 158, you read Christine’s letter to her friend. In this letter, Christine writes about her experience of British culture. Informal letters (or emails) are a way of telling a friend or family member about something you have experienced. You can also write about your personal thoughts and feelings. Formal and informal letters Formal letters are letters we write to people we do not know, for example a letter to the football trainer you have not met yet, or an application for a summer job. Informal letters are personal letters we write to someone we already know. An informal letter should have: • an opening with a greeting • a body • a closing with your signature Plan your writing Think of a day you enjoyed during your last holiday. It can be from a trip, or just something you did at home. Write a short letter to a friend or a family member to describe what happened that day. Write in the past simple. Sequence the events before you start writing. Example: 1 In the morning, we had a big breakfast. 2 We went to the beach. 3 I tried out my friend’s kayak for the first time. 4 We missed the bus, but the neighbour picked us up. Etc.
