Write a short paragraph about each of them. b) How would you describe the relationship between the father and his son? You can use examples from the text to prove your point. TALKING 28 Miscommunication Work with a partner. a) Reread the dialogue aloud together. Try to act out different emotions when you say the lines, such as empathy, impatience, confusion, fear or sadness: “Why don’t you try to go to sleep? I’ll wake you up for the medicine.” “I’d rather stay awake.” After a while he said to me, “You don’t have to stay here with me, Papa, if it bothers you.” “It doesn’t bother me.” “No, Imean you don’t have to stay if it’s going to bother you.” b) What is the boy thinking of but not able to say to his father? c) How does the father interpret what the boy actually says? If you don’t remember, find the description in the short story. 29 Act a scene Most of the story is told through dialogue. Choose one of the conversations and act it out.
