NEXT UP! 2 178 Write a short story “Going Home” on page 170 is an example of a short story. Writing a short story can be both challenging and fun. Here you will be guided through the process of writing your own short story. Short story Short stories are fiction and often follow this structure: • an opening • a conflict that needs to be resolved • a build-up of suspense • a climax • an ending A short story has few characters and is usually set over a short period of time. When we talk about a conflict in a story, it does not necessarily mean something negative. It can be a challenge, a quest or something similar that the main character must deal with. Plan your writing If you like, you can use a photo or an illustration in your textbook as inspiration. If you have completed task 22 on page 176 or task 37 on page 94, you can use your notes to write your story. Before you start writing and to help you get started, work with a partner. Ask each other the following questions: • Who is your main character? Describe their looks and personality. • Where and when does the story take place? • What is the conflict your character is involved in? Hæfniviðmið • Samið texta og leikið sér með málið þar sem sköpunargáfan og ímyndunaraflið fá að njóta sín.
